Kent Creative Online Meet-up – Friday 23rd April 2021

Artists present their work: Sheilagh Dyson and Jeanette Cook

A free meet-up designed for artists in Kent to chat, collaborate, learn, share ideas and get support.  It’s a good time to reflect on the past week and discuss all things creatives.

It’s a simple get together with like-minded creative people supporting each other and an opportunity to get feedback from the group.  It’s about building a more robust community for artists and creatives where the support comes from the community itself.

  • 10:00 – Logging in and warming up
  • 10:05 – Attendees briefly introduce themselves. It’s a good way to get to know who is around.
  • 10:15 – Artists present their work: Sheilagh Dyson and Jeanette Cook
  • 10:50 – Share news, promote events, ask for help or advice from the group, get a bit of feedback on an idea…
  • 11:00 – Random one-to-one sessions talking to another attendee in the group.
  • 11:15 – Close
  • Some extra time for an informal chat…

Jeanette Cook

“Nearly 20 years ago, voluntary redundancy gave me the opportunity to fully embrace life as an artist.  I studied for a degree in Fine Art, when I trained as a sculptor – rather to my own surprise, as until then I’d always thought I wanted to be a painter! But fairly early on in the course, I was seduced by 3 dimensional work, and I now construct sculptures from a variety of materials.  I also love to work with kiln fused glass, from which I generally make decorative panels.”

Sheilagh Dyson

“As a mixed media artist with a passion for recycling inherited from mum long before it became fashionable, I’ve become increasingly fascinated by the process of botanical (eco) dyeing and printing in recent years – the idea of producing magical colour and pattern from freely available plant materials and a few basic bits of equipment astonishes and excites me in equal measure.  I experiment with vintage papers and fabrics and love to make small hand-made books with the results.
I hope to share something of the excitement I feel every time I unwrap a bundle from the dye pot.”
